Massillon sits west of Canton on the Tuscarawas River, with the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail running through town. It’s an older industrial city, and many neighborhoods near downtown are lined with homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
In houses that age, the electrical system has usually been updated in pieces. It’s common to find a newer breaker panel feeding original or mixed wiring, too few kitchen circuits, and basements wired up over the years by whoever lived there. Our first job is to sort out what’s actually there and what needs to change first.

Asked in Massillon.
Straight answers to questions we hear here. More in the full electrical Q&A.
Do you serve Massillon?
Yes, Massillon is a short drive west of our Canton base. Call (330) 456-3375 and tell us what you need and where you are.
Why do my lights dim when the air conditioner starts?
A brief dip when a large motor starts is common, because motors draw a burst of current at startup. Dimming that is severe, lasts more than a second or happens all over the house can point to a loose connection at the panel, meter or service neutral, which should be checked.
Should I replace my fuse box before selling my house?
Fuses themselves aren’t illegal, but many buyers, lenders and insurers treat a fuse box as a red flag, and inspectors often note it. If the fuse box also limits what the house can run, replacing it with a breaker panel usually pays for itself in an easier sale.
